John Simpson, Sr.

He was one of harness racings all time greats. In the late 1940's and early 1950's he was the King of drivers at Roosevelt Raceway and in the nation. His driving record includes winning the Hambletonian twice with Hickory Smoke 1957 and Ayres in 1964. He won the Little Brown Jug three times and had won all six of the Triple Crown Races and held 15 major world records. In 1951 Lawrence B Sheppard offered him the position as General Manager and trainer for Hanover Shoe Farms. A position that he accepted and proved to be just as good of a businessman as a horseman.
